SEA CUCUMBERS
Sea Cucumbers are marine animals with leathery skin and an elongated body. The Icelandic type is called Brimbutur. They are shiny, small and fat. For centuries sea cucumbers, either fresh or dried, are used in various cuisines in the East and Southeast Asia. Dried sea cucumbers must be rehydrated by boiling and soaking in water for two days. In Chinese cuisine, sea cucumbers are usually cooked in soup with pork or stewed.
Traditional Chinese medicine considers that sea cucumbers have some kind of aphrodisiac effect and are also treated as a restorative for tendonitis and arthritis, thus they are reputed to be “Sea Ginseng”
